Vienna, 6 June 2013. This year's Wolfgang Gassner Science Award, presented by the Austrian National Group of the International Fiscal Association, was officially presented to Dr. rer.soc.oec. Karin Simader, LL.B., an associate in the tax advisory team of the TJP Group, as one of three award winners on 25 April 2013.
The dissertation is entitled "Withholding Taxes and the Fundamental Freedoms" and deals with the compatibility of withholding taxes with the fundamental freedoms of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) and the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA). In addition, the EU Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons with Switzerland and EU Association and Partnership Agreements are also examined. The dissertation will soon be published by Kluwer-Verlag.

The renowned jury consisted of Prof. Michael Lang, Prof. Eduard Lechner, Prof. Helmut Loukota and Prof. Georg Kofler. All post-doctoral theses, dissertations and diploma theses with a topic in international tax law were eligible to apply.
